Login using your Yahoo! ID
In the previous post, we said that we’d have OpenID and Yahoo!’s BBAuth ready soon. Good news:
One down, two* to go!
You can now login to FeVote to post suggestions using your Yahoo! ID.
Yahoo!’s BBAuth ended up being slightly easier for us to implement than OpenID, so we went with it first. What kind of bites about Yahoo!’s authentication is that they don’t currently let us know what your Yahoo! ID is when you login. We could have you choose an unique username just for FeVote, but that would defeat the purpose of getting everyone logged in quickly. So, what we have to do at the moment, is call users logged in through Yahoo! by the “hash” that Yahoo! gives us. This means johnny@yahoo.com will be known as a43@2sds3D-SAa54s6 (or something) on FeVote. But hey, we’re grateful that Yahoo! gives us this privilege in the first place!
About OpenID… it’ll be ready supersoon. In fact, we’re already testing it.
More good news is that, in addition to OpenID, *we’re going to be able to login AOL/AIM users too! Thanks to AOL’s relatively new OpenID server, all AOL/AIM users already have OpenIDs. We’ll be sure to provide a spot for you AOL and AIM users to type in your screen names to login to FeVote.
Yahoo! users, enjoy. OpenID/AOL/AIM users, we’re on it! Do let us know if you find any other major authentication system we can support.
